Vehuel holds the 49th position in the Shem HaMephorash, the divine Name of 72 names that Kabbalistic tradition draws from three verses of Exodus 14:19-21. He is the first angel of Sagittarius, covering 0°–5° of this fire sign, and simultaneously marks the entry into a new angelic choir: the Principalities, the sixth order of the celestial hierarchy according to Pseudo-Dionysius, of which Haniel — prince of grace and divine love — is the regent. The transition from Scorpio to Sagittarius symbolizes in tradition an emergence from the depths toward the quest for meaning and horizon. Vehuel is thus the threshold angel, the one who accompanies consciousness when it chooses to open itself after a period of recollection and inward descent.

In the Christian Kabbalah as described by Ambelain and Haziel, Vehuel is the angel of elevation and nobility of soul. He is invoked by those traversing trials and seeking to extract wisdom rather than bitterness from them, by those who study philosophy, theology, or any discipline aimed at understanding first causes. He is credited with the virtue of purifying intentions and inspiring a generosity that expects nothing in return — that free gift which is one of the hallmarks of authentic spiritual life. He also encourages the adoration of the divine as a natural dimension of human existence, reminding that praise is a posture of the soul before it is a ritual act.

To meditate with Vehuel is to turn one's gaze toward what exceeds the everyday without fleeing it. He invites recognition that each limitation encountered in existence contains, if one agrees to look at it directly, a lesson about the nature of the essential.
