Mebahiah is the fifty-fifth of the seventy-two angels of the Shem HaMephorash, the great divine Name of seventy-two syllables derived from three verses in Exodus (14:19–21), each containing seventy-two Hebrew letters. According to the kabbalistic method, these three verses are read in an interleaved manner to generate the seventy-two trigrammatic names, each presiding over a precise portion of the zodiac. In the celestial hierarchy of Christian Kabbalah as transmitted by Ambelain and Haziel, Mebahiah belongs to the ninth choir of Principalities, whose ruling prince is Archangel Haniel, governor of Venus and of sacred love. He holds the fifth and final position among the Capricorn angels of this choir, ruling over 0° to 5° of Capricorn — the period of the winter solstice, threshold of return and new beginnings.
His traditional virtues center on moral clarity and intellectual fruitfulness. Christian kabbalists present him as the bestower of consolation upon afflicted souls and as the guardian of those who live consistently according to elevated principles.
