Daniel is the 50th angel of the Shem HaMephorash, the sacred Name of 72 angelic names that Christian Kabbalah — in the tradition of Ambelain and Haziel — extracts from the 216 letters forming verses 19, 20, and 21 of Exodus 14. He presides over 5°–10° of Sagittarius within the choir of Principalities, the sixth order of the celestial hierarchy according to Pseudo-Dionysius, governed by Haniel, prince of grace and harmony. The Principalities are traditionally entrusted with watching over nations, communities, and human groups, transmitting divine inspirations into the collective sphere. Daniel, distinct from the biblical prophet who shares his name, embodies in the Shem HaMephorash the angelic dimension of institutional clemency and the care given to language.

In the Kabbalistic tradition, Daniel is the angel of clemency and righteous speech. He is associated with sacred eloquence: the word that not only convinces but consoles, soothes, and restores dignity.
