Hekamiah

The sixteenth name of the Shem HaMephorash, Hekamiah, belongs to the sequence of 72 divine names from Exodus 14:19-21, the founding text of practical kabbalah. Through this angel, the Divine manifests as « One who establishes the universe » — a power of order, cosmic architecture, and lasting stabilization. Hekamiah belongs to the choir of Cherubim, governed by Raziel, the archangel whose name means « Secret of God ». In the celestial hierarchy, the Cherubim are guardians of deep Knowledge, those who know how to distinguish lasting structures from temporary illusions. Hekamiah is the penultimate Cherub angel in the Gemini series, and his register is that of command illuminated by wisdom.

In the tradition of the 72 angels, Hekamiah is linked to the qualities of just command: he inspires a sense of collective duty, the ability to assume responsibilities that exceed personal interest, and the courage to keep one's word even when doing so is costly. He is invoked by those who exercise authority — heads of state, military commanders, corporate or community leaders — so that they may govern with equity and maintain group cohesion in times of trial. He also protects against conspiracies, betrayals, and manipulations within circles of power. His aerial domain of Gemini gives him a refined intelligence of relational dynamics and the information flows that cross human organizations.

From a meditative perspective, Hekamiah invites us to question the quality of our leadership in its most intimate sense: how do we govern our own inner life? Do we hold our commitments to ourselves with the same rigor as those made to others? His light reveals the areas where we yield to ease when honor would demand that we hold firm. This angel reminds us that all lasting external sovereignty takes root in self-mastery, cultivated day after day in the most ordinary decisions.
