Mebahel is the fourteenth name of the Shem HaMephorash, extracted like the others from the ternary sequence of Exodus 14:19-21, that triptych of verses which kabbalistic tradition considers the most direct revelation of the 72 aspects of the Divine. Belonging to the choir of Cherubim governed by Raziel — the « Secret of God » — Mebahel shares with his Cherub companions the vocation to transmit a knowledge that liberates rather than burdens. In the sign of Gemini, a double-bodied Air sign, this knowledge takes the form of discernment, righteous speech, and honest testimony. His name, meaning « God the Preserver » or « God who delivers », underlines his mission to preserve what is legitimate and to free what is unjustly withheld.

Tradition attributes to Mebahel an eminent role in the juridical and moral domain: he presides over the revelation of truth in trials, the protection of victims of injustice, and the return of what has been stolen or usurped — material goods, reputation, freedom. He is the angel of defense lawyers, investigative journalists, whistleblowers, and all those who dedicate their energy to making truth triumph against concealment. He confers upon his protégés the courage to bear witness even under pressure, the intellectual rigor needed to distinguish appearance from verifiable fact, and a remarkable equanimity in the face of adversity.

To approach Mebahel in meditation is to ask for clarity — not comfortable certainty but the courageous lucidity that confronts what one does not want to see. This angel invites us to distinguish what we truly know from what we believe because it is convenient to do so. His light illuminates the blind spots of our perceptions and helps us restore to each being the part of truth that belongs to them. He reminds us that true freedom always begins with the refusal to lie to oneself.
