Haziel marks a decisive threshold in the cycle of the 72 angels of the Shem HaMephorash: he is the ninth name, and the first to belong not to the choir of Seraphim governed by Metatron, but to that of the Cherubim, placed under the tutelage of Raziel — whose name means "Secret of God" and whom Kabbalistic tradition makes the guardian of divine mysteries and the custodian of the Sefer Raziel, the book of celestial secrets. This hierarchical passage is itself deeply meaningful: from the ardent, willful light of the Seraphim, one enters the deep knowledge and contemplative wisdom of the Cherubim. His zodiacal domain — 10° to 15° of Taurus — anchors this wisdom in earthly reality, inviting a knowledge rooted in lived experience rather than pure speculation.

In the Kabbalistic tradition as transmitted by Robert Ambelain and the author Haziel who took this angel's name as a pseudonym, this angel bears the most profound principle of divine mercy — a love that does not condition its gift upon the perfection or merit of the one who receives it. He is invoked when one seeks forgiveness — from God, from another, or from oneself in the depths where shame has long settled — and when one longs for reconciliation after a rupture carried too long as a burden. He is attributed the power to soften hearts hardened by resentment or old injury, and to bring peace where discord and bitterness have long reigned. Kabbalists recognize in him the angelic reflection of the sephirah Chesed — grace and expansive love — on the plane of celestial intelligences.

To meditate upon Haziel is to venture into the fundamental question of forgiveness: not as naive erasure of what occurred, but as progressive release from the burden of maintaining judgment and resentment in the inner space. In esoteric symbolism, mercy is not weakness — it is the quiet strength of one who has understood that the other, even if at fault, participates in the same divine mystery as oneself and carries the same fundamental wound of being human. Haziel offers this silent recognition and the deep inner peace that only it can engender.
