Mikael is the 42nd sacred name of the Shem HaMephorash, drawn from the cycle of 72 divine names extracted from the three Hebrew verses of Exodus 14:19-21. He belongs to the choir of Virtues, under the direction of the archangel Raphael. His name — identical to that of the archangel Michael but distinct from him in this system of 72 — carries the fundamental question of the Hebrew tradition: "Who is like God?" — a rhetorical interrogation that affirms the absolute uniqueness of the divine against any human or demonic pretension to claim its place or exercise its authority without accountability.

Mikael (as the 42nd angel) is the guardian of just political orders and loyalty between beings. Christian Kabbalah attributes to him the revelation of state secrets and concealed maneuvers, the protection of virtuous heads of state, and discernment for identifying hidden power games that threaten social cohesion and the common good. He is the angel of diplomats, jurists, counselors, and those who work in the corridors of power to maintain a thread of justice and equity that might otherwise fray unnoticed. He is also invoked to protect travel — terrestrial and inner — and to navigate wisely in complex influence dynamics, whether professional or interpersonal, where allegiances are tested.

To meditate with Mikael is to question one's own loyalty — first toward oneself, then toward one's commitments to others. He invites us to look without detour at the compromises we accept in the name of comfort or social peace, and to find the right gesture that betrays neither collective order nor inner integrity. His breath carries an almost political clarity: to see power dynamics as they truly are, without the naivety that blinds us to manipulation or the cynicism that prevents us from acting for what is just.
