Mehiel is the sixty-fourth of the 72 guardian angels of the Shem HaMephorash, a system derived from a trigrammatic reading of three consecutive verses of Exodus (14:19–21), each triplet of letters forming a three-consonant divine name. He belongs to the ninth choir of Archangels, governed by the archangel Michael, and reigns over 15° to 20° of Aquarius, with an influence period spanning February 3 to 7 — a moment when daylight begins its imperceptible return in the northern hemisphere. He is the last angel of the Archangels choir before the transition to the final choir of Angels: a position of closure within a series, charged with the responsibility of transmitting what has been received.

The Christian Kabbalistic tradition, as transmitted by scholars such as Ambelain and Haziel, assigns Mehiel the function of vivifying the intellect. He is the angel who animates the pen, orders ideas into coherent discourse, and protects the act of transmitting knowledge. Authors, journalists, teachers, preachers, and editors are placed under his wing. He helps overcome creative blocks, find the right words, and render complex truths accessible. He is also associated with mastery of formal logic and the capacity to distinguish the essential from the superfluous in any exposition. Some commentators also see him as a protector against intellectual imposture and the distorted use of knowledge.

Meditatively, Mehiel invites us to regard speech and writing not as mere communication tools but as creative acts that participate in the order of the world. To write is to vivify — to give form to what was formless, to offer thought a body that allows it to cross time. Contemplating his name raises the question: what knowledge within me awaits being put into words to become fully real? Mehiel reminds us that every sincere transmission is a sacred act, a light entrusted to another's hand, which will travel where its bearer cannot go.
