The Chariot — Will and Direction
# Arcana 7: The Driver of Destiny
The Chariot shows a proud figure seated in a chariot pulled by two horses (or sometimes sphinxes) that seem to want to go in opposite directions. Despite this tension, the driver firmly holds the reins, steering the chariot straight ahead. He often wears a crown of stars, a symbol of illumination.
The Chariot speaks of the power of conscious will, self-mastery, and firm direction toward a goal. He is the person who takes control of their life and directs it with intention. When The Chariot appears, it asks: Are you holding the reins of your life, or are you being carried by the currents?
The number seven symbolizes spiritual power, wisdom, and control. The Chariot shows that despite the opposing forces within you (the two horses pulling in different directions), you have the power to unify them and move forward.
In business, The Chariot speaks of firm decision-making and leadership that advances. In travel or change, it speaks of certain progress toward your destination. It is the card of momentum and visible progress.
Reversed, The Chariot may indicate a loss of control, indecision, or lack of direction. It is when you are a passenger rather than a driver.
The Chariot teaches you that you have the power to steer your life. Challenges are not obstacles — they are forces to master and transform into driving power.
