The Wheel of Fortune — Cycles and Destiny
# Arcana 10: The Eternal Cycles
The Wheel of Fortune shows a massive turning wheel, often with creatures of the four directions attached to it. Some cards show a serpent climbing while others descend. At the center of the wheel is a divine eye, suggesting that behind all seemingly random movement, there is a higher order.
The Wheel of Fortune speaks of cycles, karma, destiny, and the law of cause and effect. It is the recognition that life is not static — it is a constant cycle of rise and fall, expansion and contraction. What goes up must come down. What falls must eventually rise again.
The number ten represents the complete cycle, the end of one phase and the beginning of another. The Wheel teaches that nothing is permanent — your current situation, good or bad, will change. This is both a source of comfort and a call to vigilance.
In readings, The Wheel of Fortune often speaks of a major turning point, a change in fortune, or the need to adapt to new circumstances. It may indicate that you have received what you sowed (positive karma) or that past karma is rising to the surface.
Reversed, The Wheel may indicate a broken cycle, a feeling of being trapped, or a resistance to change that would bring growth.
The Wheel of Fortune teaches acceptance of cycles. You cannot have spring without autumn, wealth without challenge. Understand the cycle and work with it, not against it.
