The name Omael is formed from the Hebrew letters עמא (ayin-mem-aleph) followed by the suffix El, interpreted by French kabbalistic masters — Ambelain above all — as 'God patient and long-suffering.' As the 30th name of the Shem HaMephorash, it is woven into the framework of 72 trigrams drawn from Exodus 14:19-21, a secret architecture in which each name channels a particular divine quality. Omael belongs to the choir of Dominions, the seventh angelic hierarchy according to the Pseudo-Dionysian classification as reinterpreted by Christian Kabbalah, under the guidance of archangel Tsadkiel. This choir administers great durations and cycles of manifestation, ensuring that forms unfold according to just measure.

Omael is specifically the guardian of fertility and perpetuation: he watches over the multiplication of animal and plant species and the transmission of lineages.
