The twentieth name of the Shem HaMephorash, Pahaliah emerges from the trigrammatic partition of the foundational verses of Exodus 14:19-21, the matrix of classical Hebrew angelology. This method — known as boustrophedon reading — produces seventy-two divine names by alternately reading the letters left to right and right to left. Pahaliah belongs to the choir of Thrones, the celestial hierarchy directed by archangel Tsaphkiel whose name means 'Divine Contemplation' or 'Eye of God'. The Thrones sustain the great orientations of the soul, lasting commitments, and fundamental vocational choices. Pahaliah governs 5° to 10° of Cancer, a degree of deep aquatic interiority and memory of spiritual roots.

According to the Christian kabbalistic tradition as transmitted by Ambelain and Haziel, Pahaliah is the angel of redemption in its purest sense: he intervenes to raise the soul that has fallen into dispersion and reminds it of its original divine nature. He is invoked to strengthen religious or spiritual vocation, to fortify self-mastery understood as integrity of being, and to develop the inner discipline necessary for any deep and lasting commitment. He protects those who live under vows, who dedicate their lives to teaching ethical values, or who are traversing a crisis of meaning and seek to find the thread of their mission again. His sphere also includes theology, practical morality, and every form of consecrated life.

In a contemporary meditative perspective, Pahaliah symbolizes the precise moment when one hears one's inner calling with enough clarity to no longer smother it under the urgencies of daily life. This is not about fleeing the world, but about redirecting vital energy from dispersion toward a center chosen with discernment. His Cancer water element calls for allowing desires to settle with patience: like a spring filtering slowly through rock, Pahaliah helps the soul distinguish what truly nourishes it from what merely occupies it.

How to pray to Pahaliah according to tradition
