Frequently Asked Questions
What does a planet in a zodiac sign mean in astrology?↓
In astrology, each planet represents a psychological function or type of energy (the Sun = identity, Mars = action, Venus = love and values, etc.). The sign describes how that energy expresses itself. For example, 'Mars in Cancer' points to a drive that operates through emotional attunement and protection rather than direct confrontation. Astrology is a symbolic interpretive system, not a predictive science.
How do I interpret Venus in my natal chart?↓
Venus symbolises what you love, desire and find beautiful, in relationships, aesthetics and sensory pleasures. The sign where your natal Venus falls colours how you express affection and attraction: Venus in Aries is direct and passionate, Venus in Pisces is romantic and idealistic. To find your natal Venus placement, you need your date, time and place of birth.
What is the difference between my Sun sign and my other planetary placements?↓
Your Sun sign (determined by your birth date) reflects your core identity and conscious direction in life. A complete natal chart, however, includes 10 classical planets plus sensitive points such as the Ascendant, Nodes, Lilith and Chiron: each in a different sign and house. These placements add considerable nuance to the psychological portrait beyond the Sun sign alone.
What are domicile, exaltation, detriment and fall in astrology?↓
These are the four essential dignities of traditional astrology. A planet in domicile is in the sign it naturally rules (e.g. Mars in Aries) and expresses its qualities with ease. In exaltation, it reaches its peak expression (e.g. Sun in Aries). In detriment (opposite sign to its domicile) or fall (opposite its exaltation), the planet's energy meets more friction or expresses less directly. This is not inherently negative, simply more complex.
How do I find my exact planetary placements?↓
You need three pieces of information: your date of birth, your time of birth (as precise as possible) and your place of birth. With these three data points, a natal chart calculator can generate the exact position of every planet in a sign and house. Birth time is especially important for the Ascendant and the Moon, both of which move through a sign in a matter of hours.
Are there 'bad' planetary placements in a natal chart?↓
No. Every placement carries both potential strengths and challenges. Saturn exalted in Capricorn can be as rigid as it is disciplined; the Moon in Scorpio can be as deeply empathetic as it is emotionally intense. Sound astrological interpretation avoids value judgements and instead seeks to understand individual dynamics holistically, rather than labelling placements as good or bad.
