Dagaz — from Proto-Germanic *dagaz, 'day' — is the twenty-third rune of the Elder Futhark and the seventh of the third aett. The Anglo-Saxon rune poem speaks with luminous clarity: 'Day, the glorious light of the Creator, is sent by the Lord; it is beloved of men, a source of hope and happiness to rich and poor, of service to all.' Dagaz is dawn — not noon, not the full blaze of Sowilo's sun, but the precise threshold moment when night becomes day, when one state of consciousness crosses irreversibly into another. Baldr, the beloved son of Odin who embodies purity, light, and the hope of rebirth, presides here. Dagaz is associated with the moebius quality — its stave resembles a figure-eight or butterfly, a form with no inside or outside — suggesting that breakthrough transforms perspective entirely.

In the third aett, Dagaz follows Ingwaz (the seed's readiness) and precedes Othala (the inherited ground): the breakthrough happens, the threshold is crossed, and what remains is to receive what the journey has earned — the ancestral legacy awaiting.
