Hexagram 41 — Decrease (Sǔn) — places Mountain above Lake, the stillness and restraint of Gen above the joyous openness of Dui. Wilhelm's reading situates this hexagram within the broad I Ching teaching on the cyclical movement between fullness and emptiness: decrease is not loss but redistribution, an act of conscious simplification that strengthens the essential by releasing the superfluous.
